Three features rarely, if ever, seen in Lompoc will headline the third annual Santa Barbara County Cooperative Festival Saturday at El Camino School in Lompoc.
An all-electric TESLA sedan, not sold in Lompoc and rarely seen here, will be parked by the fence along North H Street as part of the festival’s Green Wheels Showcase with fourteen other electric and hybrid vehicles.
El Son de Jarocho del Centro of Santa Ana, a seven-person musical ensemble playing the distinctive Jarocho music of the Mexican Caribbean will appear on stage at 2:05 and again at 3:20 as well as for a post-festival party at Angela’s Restaurant on South J Street. The party is open to the public.
And top leadership of TeamWorks, a cleaning cooperative in Silicon Valley which is on track to gross a million dollars this year, will speak in the morning “cooperative talks” and then talk to the public throughout the day at its booth.
The Festival will take place Saturday, October 15 at El Camino School Community Center in Lompoc 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
As in past years, art, music, and dance will flourish. Acroyoga Addicts, Alley Project, Garcia Dance Studio, and Lompoc High School’s Drama Club will also appear. Entertainment for children will include face painting, jump house, Zumbathon and games. The festival is bilingual. Food and artisan vendors will attend.
Discussions in English and Spanish about grass roots job creation by co-ops nationwide will begin at 10 a.m. Forty social service providers and other non-profits, cooperatives, and businesses will present outdoor booths.
Lompoc Community Bank, Lompoc Unified School District, Lompoc Valley Medical Center, McCune Foundation, Rabobank, Democracy at Work Institute, La Buena Radio, John Linn of Double L Services, Attorney James Hall, City of Lompoc, and Rodenhi Accountants join Community Action Commission, YMCA and Lompoc Cooperative Development Project, a non-profit corporation dedicated to creating cooperatives for economic and human development, in sponsoring the event.
